Oral Cancer Screening

According to the American Cancer Society, about 49,670 people will get oral cavity or oropharyngeal cancer this year, and an estimated 9,700 people will die of these cancers. Regular screenings are crucial for catching oral cancer early, since early diagnosis can significantly improve treatment and prognosis.

An oral cancer screening at our office is quick and painless, and doesn’t require any preparation on your end. We will gently check your face, neck, and mouth for visible abnormalities, including red or white patches or bumps in the glands. Some screenings may also include using lasers to pinpoint any possible cancerous changes.

Oral cancer screenings are easy and can make all the difference. If any of the following factors describe you, you may be at higher risk for oral cancer and should schedule regular screenings:

  • Tobacco use of any kind
  • Heavy alcohol use
  • Previous oral cancer diagnosis
  • History of significant sun exposure
